Times News to Launch New Website Design | New

KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Times News will soon be getting a makeover.

The Times News is set to launch its new website on Thursday with a revamped site designed to provide a smoother and simplified user experience.

“Although our sites were still relatively young as far as websites go, we knew there were better, more user-friendly designs out there now,” Times News editor Rick Thomason said in an email. “As we embarked on the launch of bristolnow.news, we had a great preview of the new designs available and realized it was time to give our readers a friendlier and easier to navigate experience.”

Six Rivers Media is the parent company of Kingsport Times News and Bristol Now, its latest online and weekly print product, launched last month.

For the Times News website, the redesign includes a more targeted menu for online readers.

“I think the navigation and layout are the main improvements to the sites,” Thomason said. “The look itself will be radically different from what our readers have experienced in recent years. But beyond that, we’ve even stripped down the menu and removed some unused categories to make it easier to find information.

News agencies Kingsport and Bristol are not the only ones to benefit from a new online presence, however.

On Thursday, Six Rivers Media will also launch a new website for its other daily news outlet, Johnson City Press.

The company’s other weekly news outlets – the Jonesborough Herald & Tribune, the Erwin Record and the Mountain City Tomahawk – will also receive a website revamp in the coming months.

“While they’re all on the same basic model,” Thomason explained, “each will have its own color scheme that sets it apart from the rest. The overall goal is to present our local journalism in a way that makes it easy to find and easily accessible.

“Six Rivers Media is the largest newsgathering operation in the Appalachian Highlands, and we want visitors to our website to have the best access to the incredible work our reporters produce every day.”

The website URLs will remain the same for Kingsport Times News and Johnson City Press.
